Docent with Snake

Zoo Docents are the volunteer staff who help guide Zoo visitors around the park, educate them about animals with live animals showings, bio-facts, and touch tables, and help to interpret the many happenings around the Zoo to help visitors get the most out of their day at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.

Docents are women and men who volunteer a minimum of 60 hours per year and must be a minimum of 18 years of age

Some of the activities docents take part in:

  • Conduct tours in the Zoo and Aquarium
  • Provide information to visitors at animal exhibits
  • Do observational research
  • Assist at Zoo special events
  • Visit community groups with small animals

Classes for new docents (volunteers) will be held only in the spring of 2014.  The dates for the orientations are Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2, 2014.  To register to attend an orientation, or for more information, call Jeanne Burek at 412 365 2524 or email jburek@pittsburghzoo.org.
