Volunteers / Docents
Zoo Docents are the volunteer staff who help guide Zoo visitors around the park, educate them about animals with live animals showings, bio-facts, and touch tables, and help to interpret the many happenings around the Zoo to help visitors get the most out of their day at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.
Docents are women and men who volunteer a minimum of 60 hours per year and must be a minimum of 18 years of age
Some of the activities docents take part in:
- Conduct tours in the Zoo and Aquarium
- Provide information to visitors at animal exhibits
- Do observational research
- Assist at Zoo special events
- Visit community groups with small animals
Prospective Docent Orientation
If you would like ot become a Zoo docent, we will be having a prospective docent orientation in August, followed by ten weeks of classes which will begin in September.
The classes will be held on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
